Objectives

This website has been created by Noosa Shire residents who are very concerned about the proliferation of STA/STR/SSLs (short term accommodation/short term rentals/short stay lettings, i.e. unstaffed hotels) in our residential areas.

We believe that the creep of these unstaffed hotels into our suburban streets is adversely impacting our collective way of life. We are losing diversity and stability as permanent neighbours move out and long term renters are priced out of the market, and our businesses are suffering unprecedented staffing challenges - workers cannot find homes to buy or rent.

From right now, and in the lead up to the local government elections on Saturday 16 March 2024, our objectives are to:

1. Provide a community forum for information, discussion and political influence in relation to short term letting in Noosa.

2. Alert the community to the negative impacts short term letting is having on the amenity of our neighbourhoods, the viability of our businesses and local economy, and the provision of
essential services.

3. Influence Noosa Council to:

a. Continue its commitment to regulating short term lets
b. Implement further measures to discourage short term letting
c. Reduce the number of short term lets in Noosa and the impact on neighbours
d. Improve transparency to the community

4. Advocate for no extension of tourist zones in the Noosa Plan, and

5. Provide background, information and opinion that will influence voters in the 2024 Council elections
