2024 Local Government Elections

The 2024 Local Government Elections (Council Elections) are being held on Saturday 16 March 2024.  Here in the Noosa Shire there is bound to be many issues on which candidates will campaign. We believe one of the most important is that of the proliferation of Short Term Accommodation e.g. AirBNB, Stays etc (i.e unstaffed hotels) in our shire.

Despite some steps in the right direction, the current Council and Councillors have continued to allow homes in low and medium density areas - not just the tourist strip, but suburban areas where residents actually live, to be approved for short stay tourist accommodation. This has resulted loss of community, and a reduction in homes being available for long term rentals. As a result families and long term residents are moving away, reducing the numbers in our schools, the services available to the resident community, and creating staff shortages across all businesses.

In the weeks leading up to these elections, we will be asking each candidate their opinion on STAs, whether they have any financial interest in an STA property. We will publish their responses on this site, and share via social media. We will note the omission if they choose not to respond.

Once they have nominated, candidate responses can be found here.
